Talk:US and UK direct support Israel's 2023 'War on Hamas'
Discussion
- It occurred to me that the media reports and D-Notice came a few days after the first Yemeni drone/missile attacks at Israel, and more than two weeks since Hamas took hostages. So I thought their deployment to Yemen - to look for and disrupt launches - might make more sense than Gaza. We know they've had those missions before. --Diagonal (talk) 19:52, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
US, UK support of Israel
Yes, US and UK directly supporting Israel, this does not seem to be contentious. But especially in the case of UK, that seems to be heavily based on self-interest, with a long history (British Mandate for Palestine, establishment of Saudi Arabia). There is present-day strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia (1). There is recent strategic partnership something between UK and Ukraine (2), likely going back to political philosophy preceding the Crimean War (1853-56).
This in particular manifests itself in a very different treatment of ugly side, or ugly imagery, coming from the conflicts in Ukraine/Russia's neighborhoods, and the ME conflicts.
As for Gaza, at the time Egypt refused to give them citizenship, and Saudis do not seem to be in the rush on humanitarian side as well -in addition to the above, --Resup (talk) 17:18, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
Nuseirat refugee camp-do not know what happened, how credible are the reports; in general of course they should not be willingly targeting civilians/ if that could be avoided. It could be following known practice of demolishing houses of terrorists-but they normally try to give pre-warnings in those cases. Or/more likely, they were actively taking fire from the buildings, and in practice in modern warfare (at least in Ukraine) buildings are often heavily hit/taken down, as there is little else which is realistic in practice; so liberated towns are almost fully destroyed. I do not know what really happened here. Taken for granted, reports are disturbing/sad. But also, evacuations through checkpoint managed by Egypt (Rafah) were tried, and prevented/obstructed by Egypt for quite a while; more lifes could be saved otherwise. --Resup (talk) 22:31, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
