Unsure I am getting all details that graphics author is trying to convey. Buk will send fragments into a cone, mostly transversally to the warhead cylinder axes (and impact-wise, affected by approach velocity). It will not fly in spherically symmetric way. So it's not impossible not to have impacts on the shortest line from detonation to the body; DSB probably matched cone to impact area so it is not too obviously wrong, cone angles-wise. What they have not done is angle of impact for each of those individual holes (as opposed to the overall damage area), with their matching it will fly essentially sideways, from damaged to undamaged side of the plane, while reality is that it is essentially along the plane axes, front to back. Also, density of holes may be off, they set it too close. Those points were raised by Antey and checked by experiment. So, wrong it is, but may be not quite captured why by this graphics. Holes may be bigger than fragments. They are not supposed to be on a line and equally spaced for the Buk, but it is not clear cut case we ever see that (I guess the graphics presents one suspect area, where holes on a beam appear quite regularly spaced--but anything not hitting narrow beam won't be seen so line-up is not clear cut, nor is the spacing). Missing that membrane under plane nose cone, a but strange indeed, restricts possible fragment cones quite significantly. --Resup (talk) 00:02, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
