Geolocation of the rightmost fume seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYOMEDK_uVs

Used video footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTx0kmQnZLw

Source: User:Q (.png)

note: map view is rotated for field of view so north is approximately to the right, and the view (to the left) is south.

NOTE Image is from move clip ZAMAN ALWSL and the image and movie are both showing a North to South View. Rising sun is to the East / Left of image/movie. This does not match orientation of the Google Map image.

Discussion

I agree on the big p/flume, at least line of sight, and probably just behind the trees. I was seeing the smaller one further out on that line, maybe near the furthest building out. Reviewing, can only say it's along that line of sight. Excellent breakdown. --Caustic Logic (talk) 13:31, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

I didn't include it in this image, but if you draw the line of sight based on this video and the other one, it will cross in the marked area. I'm not 100% sure about the cameraman's position, it's definitely in that house block, but it may be a bit closer to the explosion. The position of the smaller fume is just a rough estimate, I initially thought that it's even closer, but I agree that it could be farther as well. --Q (talk) 14:02, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
My lines in the other graphic are too rough to mean much at this scale, FWIW. It's a basic idea thing. I agree on the basic view location, nothing exact (unlike the far north view, where it almost has to be a certain building). The black plume, just somewhere in that range - hard to say what its thin base is in front of. It should be angling up to the left from an origin a bit to the right. It's been suggested this is unrelated smoke from trash burning, but no. It's a discrete puff that rose once, at the same time as these other plumes. He's panning to it first like its part of the attack, and I'm sure it is. Some different thing "dropped" there. --Caustic Logic (talk) 02:35, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
There is something useful in this NYT video for geolocation at 3 minutes NYT video They don't explain the second plume smoke but I believe the satellite photos have updated for members on Terraserver so maybe someone can check the south west of the town? I did think it might be unrelated because the smoke lines up with this burned area http://imgur.com/a/X3asf but would be odd to be filming it if burning stuff there is a normal, regular event --Andrew
Thanks, Andrew. It does, by wind, come from a bit to the right, maybe as far as that little burn pit area. But it also seems to be a distinct plume, like a blast makes, with o smoke before that, and none seen later in the distance views. Same time as other plumes, seems to be a differnt part of the attack - a bomb/rocket that didn't detonate, or something else coordinated. --Caustic Logic (talk) 12:19, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
I meant something like this(for the other camera position: red lines are landmarks, yellow lines are the fumes), but I didn't want to include too much information in one image. --Q (talk) 11:25, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Camera position: I basically agree. I was seeing it bit further north of the y, but more likely your placement is better. Anyway, quite solidly placed right aound there, and these flumes are able to be placed better than the others, making for a better map. The stuff you're doing is great - just what we like to do, at a time when I, for one, have been too swamped to do very much, and maybe better than we usually do anyway. --Caustic Logic (talk) 05:50, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
