'Propaganda for a terrorist organization' charge

Overheard informal presentation of this, signing a peace declaration supporting PKK by a well-known academic. PKK, last checked, is on the US State Department terrorist organizations list. In Turkey, I guess, both PKK and FETÖ would be; there are people charged/sentenced for peacefully supporting PKK, and more for supporting FETÖ.
In the West, doing so peacefully (an equivalent of voicing support to AQ, HTS or IS) , I guess, will not mean prison. But no human rights orgs will object against loosing jobs and severe media condemnation, which altogether means, in real terms, being out of jobs for a long time. Technically, there is a human right for employment (a vague article 23 on the UN declaration). But it is not followed (in real terms, not in legal speak) even in mundane situations, and so of course nobody will be out there to protect such right of a person supporting (by words) the Al Qaeda.
In the case of Turkish academics, above, they are , or headed to, a prison, and there is human rights orgs support expressed on their behalf. It also feels better, because PKK is not AQ and has political aspirations, like statehood ('separatism'), which is OK. But an Islamic State (in quotes or otherwise, undetermined), I guess, is not OK?
But in Ukraine, publicly supporting 'separatism' can lead to a prison term. And actions of Ukrainian state against the rebel regions may be described in ways largely similar to the above peace declaration. And there are people actually in prisons/detentions on separatism charges. But this is not a pressing human rights issue, because Ukraine is on the 'Western' side and this is all against 'Putin'? Just to make sure, supporting (in words) a listed terrorist organization or separatism is a Russian criminal code article too.
Apart from the above qualms on human rights things, the Turkish academics letter sounds fine and as of today quite timely --Resup (talk) 10:42, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
