Covid-19

May 31, 2020: The majority of recorded Covid-19 cases are in southern provinces of Aden, Hadramout and Taiz. Spreadsheet Covid 19 Yemen, Tony Toh

Mainstream coverage seems, as ever, to be taking the opportunity to paint the 'Houthis' as responsible for obstructing aid and covering up the extent of Covid 19 in Yemen. As far as I am aware the first cases were reported in South Yemen, not areas of Houthi control. I may start putting some reference points together here. --Diagonal (talk) 16:08, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Middle East Monitor: Unofficial reports indicate that hundreds of Yemenis have died in their homes as a result of the disease, most of them in Houthi-controlled areas.

Aden

Taiz

Saana

  • May 5: Tony Toh - Sanaa-based health minister Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakkil announces the first ever confirmed #COVID19 case in #Yemen's capital #Sanaa.
  • June 7: Tony Toh - #Sanaa-based undersecretary of Health Ministry Dr. Ali Jahaf says there are 80% recovery rate on the current #COVID19 cases in the same province. This means there are more cases erupted in Sanaa & northern regions, but SPC/NSG decided not to publish 1st...Reason of doing this is to allay public fears about claims of potential outbreak in Yemen's capital Sanaa, hence they will only report total cases once these patients are recovered. But anti-Houthis claimed that Ansarullah authorities are covering it up.

'Humanitarian aid'

A particularly draw dropping quote from WFP linked source:

  • The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the USA, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Germany have been stalwarts in supporting Yemen during its hunger crisis. Now WFP hopes that efforts will be redoubled as it seeks US$878 million dollars to continue its operation to save lives, and change lives in what is already the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
