March - April

Regional breakdown showing negative excess mortality in most areas of Ecuador during lockdown (Data for March 21 - April 23) . In areas where Covid had not taken hold the lower deathrates are presumed to be due to factors such as fewer traffic accidents, violent crime etc

March - July

The greenest shaded areas had the least or even negative excess mortality (March 21 - July 25)

Lockdown deaths?

Some have argued that excess mortality seen in the pandemic may be largely attributable to a deleterious impact of the lockdown measures on the health of the population. Whilst differences in how statistics are compiled between countries complicate comparisons, this regional breakdown from Ecuador indicates that there has been negative excess mortality in most regions of Ecuador during the lockdown, less deaths than can be expected normally. With excess deaths mostly concentrated in Guayas. Indicating that other regions have not yet seen many infections. --Diagonal (talk) 12:49, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Excess mortality due to lockdown measures?

Contrary indications

"When the measures against the coronavirus were imposed, it turned out that it not only broke the back of the coronavirus but other viruses too," Erik Lande, now head of the family business in the south of the country, told AFP...
Presumably thanks to the isolation of the elderly and social distancing measures mortality even seems to have declined. Norway for instance had six percent fewer deaths in May than a year earlier, and 13 percent fewer in June.
