In early February three busses were erected in the center of Dresden as an artwork by German-Syrian artist Manaf Halbouni, modelled after a picture from eastern Aleppo (versions here and here). Among the reasons why this was met with huge opposition by the citizens was that early on it was revealed that the barricade in Aleppo was erected by the radical Islamist al-Qaeda affiliate Ahrar Al-Sham, with their flag raised on top.
On February 20, activists of the nationalist Identitarian Movement disguised as infrastructure workers drove a lift truck to the monument, raised the pictured flag reading "Heuchler" - Hypocrites - in the style of the Ahrar al-Sham flag, and a banner with the inscription "Eure Politik ist Schrott" - Your politics are junk, which wasn't received with amusement by everybody.
